The People’s Beach:
Aydinaneth Ortiz

Pasadena City College Aug 7 – Sep 12, 2025
Exhibition Reception Aug 7, 5-7 PM

Ortiz’s LBC is conceptually anchored by her working mother’s daily commute to Belmont Shore’s beachfront, which is the southeast corner of Los Angeles County. In Ortiz’s LBC community collides, as this space is accessible to them, unlike the neighboring beach cities. Allegorically, the photographic series In the LBC conveys equal parts memory and reality, blurring the boundaries of time between Ortiz’s childhood and today. In this visual exploration, which for Ortiz began in 2022, she has chosen to focus on the complexity of this geographical environment; from its lush greenery to the docked cargo ships circumambulating beyond the breakwater; from its seascapes to its beach fronts and suburban sprawls, from the serenity of its parks to the vibrancy of the people who inhabit this location for work and play.
