Ingredients, 2017
Ingredients, is a series of photographs of everyday products used to make methamphetamines. Working in the studio allowed me to isolate the objects against a black backdrop removing them from their original environment. I highlight eight products commonly found in meth: rubbing alcohol, brake fluid, camp fuel, sinus medication, battery cleaner, acetone, carb & choke cleaner, and antifreeze. The large format prints enable the viewer to look closely at the product labels where phrases like “removes corrosion” and “extremely flammable” stand out. The photographs in Ingredients, investigates how the re-purpose and use of these objects result in the manipulation of brain and material chemistry – ultimately destroying relationships beyond the micro-level.
